Sarah was among the first of our students when ReTweed started in 2016. When she completed the course, she missed us so much she returned as a volunteer, manufacturing products and commissions for our shop. Now she is a member of our business incubator, developing plans to create her own textiles business. And making Bordersbags aswell of course!

Here’s Sarah, in her own words.

I joined ReTweed’s training programme as I felt a little bit lost, without a purpose, once my two girls started school. I immediately loved the friendliness at ReTweed, you could go in and speak to anyone about everything.

I enjoyed getting the chance to learn new skills, make different things and being surrounded by creative, supportive women. I had never sewn before so my first time was with ReTweed. I have since inherited my great grandmother’s 1962 Singer sewing machine. I don’t remember her using it but it’s so special to be using something my nana had loved.

We work on some wonderful products at ReTweed. I really like the bow ties. And the black and white bag with farm scenes on it. Where else would you repurpose a chair cover and make it into bags?

At the moment, I am focussing on developing my skills in free-motion embroidery, something I didn’t think I would like but I am really enjoying the freedom it allows.

I have lived in Eyemouth for 34 years. It’s great to live in a small town with the beach on your doorstep. My favourite outdoor space is along the cliff walk to Coldingham. The secluded beaches and amazing views for miles are breathtaking.

You can’t beat the view from the bantry wall. Whether you are looking out to sea, at the cliffs or the harbour. It is just so beautiful.

For me, the best way to spend an hour in the Borders is to take my girls to the local park and just watch them having fun. And maybe having a go on the swings myself.
