Sewing Machine Basics
November 9 2019 @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm| £39
This workshop takes the mystery out of the sewing machine, holding first-time sewers by the hand and showing the easiest ways to get the most from their machine.
With the resurrection of ‘make do and mend’ culture, interest in learning how to master a sewing machine has soared. Although 100s more sewing machines are sold each week – a lot of them are gathering dust as folk seem to be terrified of the technology!!!
This workshop starts with an essential overview of the sewing machine, learning how to thread it and wind bobbins, understanding tension and which thread, which needles and which feet to choose along with troubleshooting common problems. There’s some guidance on the basic sewing kit you should have, plus advice on which fabrics to choose and basics of cutting out. The workshop includes making a tri-colour cushion cover and take-home handouts.
Your tutor for this class will be Jill Harrison. Jill is a very experienced tutor and trainer with extensive sewing experience. She runs ReTweed’s Main 12-week Craft, Design and Technology Courses as well as her own successful creative business.
Workshop Cost £39 (including snacks, drinks and all the cake you can eat!)
