Sewing Machine Basics Family Day – Saturday 10th August
August 10 2019 @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm| £53
Our NEW workshop is suitable for children and adults to come and sew together! Running over the whole Saturday, children can bring their adults to learn to sew a tri-coloured tote bag each.
What you will learn:
- Setting up a sewing machine and basic sewing skills
- Cutting out fabric using a pattern template
- Hemming and finishing the sides of a project
- Making and adding handles to a product.
This workshop takes the mystery out of the sewing machine, holding first-time sewers by the hand and showing the easiest ways to get the most from their machine. This workshop starts with an essential overview of the sewing machine, learning how to thread it and wind bobbins, understanding tension and which thread, which needles and which feet to choose along with troubleshooting common problems. There’s some guidance on the basic sewing kit you should have, plus advice on which fabrics to choose and basics of cutting out.
- Your choice of fabric from our range for one adult and one child size tote bag
- All tools and machines you need for the day
- Take home handouts
With the resurrection of ‘make do and mend’ culture, interest in learning how to master a sewing machine has soared. Although 100s more sewing machines are sold each week – a lot of them are gathering dust as folk seem to be terrified of the technology!!! In this workshop, Jill Harrison, ReTweed’s Main Trainer will provide a hands-on guide for beginners.
Workshop Cost £37 Adults / £16 for under 18’s (Drinks, snacks and all the cake you can eat!)
Experience Level: Beginners
