Come and learn the ancient art of Rag Rugging
At ReTweed we hate to throw anything away so this craft is just up our up-cycling street. Who would have thought torn up old rags could create a stunning rag rugged bag, cushion or decorative wreath. Come along to this workshop and you’ll be amazed at how easy it is to create a unique masterpiece for your home.
Learn from a rag rug guru
Margaret Kenny, is a Textiles Historian and a very passionate rag rugger. She will demonstrate the traditional techniques of hooking, progging and podging strips of fabric through hessian backing to make fabulous rugs, wall hangings, cushion covers and so on. During the workshop Margaret will also share the history and heritage of rag rugging in Britain and introduce specific techniques and patterns associated with the local area. Margaret will also work with participants to help them think about colours, patterns and encourage them to think about what kind of textiles work best for a dynamic and artistic finish.
Take home your masterpiece and a new skill
At the end of the day you will take home your own rag rug sampler or cushion cover along with a wealth of ideas for making more rag rug creations at home. Health Warning: Rag Rugging is highly addictive.
