Introduction to Weaving – Saturday 8th June 2019
June 8 2019 @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm| £35
This workshop is a basic introduction to the art of weaving – a method of textile production in which two distinct sets of yarns or threads are interlaced at right angles to form a fabric or cloth.
What you will learn:
In this beginner’s weaving workshop you will learn all the basics, including how to warp your loom ready to weave, how to choose which yarns to use, basic weaving techniques and how to end your piece.
We will also help troubleshoot some common weaving problems, and provide you with lots of tips and tricks to have you weaving like a pro in no time at all. You will make a beautiful woven wall hanging, which you will be able to customise to your own tastes, choosing from a selection of colours of yarn and textiles.
Tutor for the Day:
This workshop will be led by Marianne King. Marianne studied Art at Cardiff College of Art and then Leicester Polytechnic ending up with a BA (Hons) in Art and Design: woven and printed textiles. She taught textiles crafts in a variety of contexts and had her work exhibited in Open Exhibitions around the country. During the past two years Marianne has hosted workshops including Natural Dying and Wild Weaving. These workshops were based on “No Waste” using pre-loved fabrics and turning them into scarves, cushions and wall hangings.
Along with an esteemed company of artists, craftsfolk and makers, she has joined the ReTweed Team to deliver an introductory session on weaving basing the colours and designs in of our natural landscape, including our coastal connections.
