Introduction to Wood Craft

This beginner’s workshop is a collaboration between ReTweed & Eyemouth Men’s Shed and is a great way to develop your wood working skills.

Our hands-on class will teach and explore woodworking techniques including:

  • How to mark, size and cut accurately
  • Basics of sanding, planing, drilling and sawing.
  • Gaining the confidence to use a range of hand tools and build an understanding of woodworking methods.
  • Essential Health & Safety

The workshop is experiential and fun but underpinned with a clear understanding of the health and safety implications when using tools and in particular, electrical tools.

All materials will be provided, using reclaimed and recycled wood and our makers on the day will go home with a self-made square bird box – approved by the RSPB or another basic wood crafted item.

The workshop will be run by Alasdair Williams who has a background in consultancy in building and construction. It will also be supported by another Men’s Shed carpenter to ensure that all students on the day get the best possible experience. Numbers are limited to 6 – so please book early to secure a place.
